JESUS OUR HEALER

Jesus Our Healer

from John 5:1-15

FIVE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT JESUS THE HEALER:

1. JESUS SEEKS OUT THE SICK FOLKS

John 5:3  In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. KJV

2.  JESUS HEALS LONG-STANDING ILLNESSES!

John 5:5-6 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case....KJV

3.  JESUS RESPECTS THE WILL OF THE SICK PERSON:

John 5:6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?  KJV

4.  JESUS PAYS NO ATTENTION TO THE DAY OR THE RELIGIOUS RULES:

John 5:9-10 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath. The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed. KJV

5.  JESUS CONFRONTS THE CAUSE OF THE SICKNESS SO IT WILL NOT RETURN:

John 5:14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. KJV

FIVE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO RECEIVED HEALING FROM JESUS:

1.  IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW LONG YOU HAVE BEEN SICK!

John 5:5-6  And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? KJV

2.  IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW MANY OTHER SICK FOLKS ARE AROUND YOU NOT BEING HEALED:

John 5:3  In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. KJV

3.  IT DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU ARE SURROUNDED BY A RELIGIOUS SYSTEM THAT HAS PERVERTED GOD'S HEALING TRUTHS:

A. John 5:4  For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had. KJV

Originally, anyone who got into the troubled waters would be healed when they were stirred by the angel of the Lord, but the religious leaders had slowly perverted God's provision of healing for the people by limiting it to only "the first into the water" thereby enabling themselves to sell front row seats.

B. John 5:10  The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed. KJV

The religious system of that day was more concerned about their religious ordinances than  getting people healed.  This did not deter Jesus from healing.

4.  YOUR OLD EXCUSES FOR NOT BEING HEALED DO NOT MATTER TO JESUS!

John 5:7-8 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. KJV

Notice how Jesus paid no attention to the man's excuse nor did He even acknowledge that He had heard it. People who receive healing from Jesus need to move away from their old excuses of the past. Stop whining!! Jesus won't hear it!!

5.  IT DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU HAVE LIMITED OR NO UNDERSTANDING OF WHO JESUS CHRIST IS!

John 5:12-13  Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk? And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place. KJV

THIS IS HUGE! All, 100%, everyone that Jesus healed was not aware of who He really was! All of the people Jesus healed in His earthly ministry of 42 months were not even born again!!! What does this prove?  You don't have to be a spiritual rocket scientist to receive healing from Jesus!!!

 WHAT DOES MATTER THEN?

I.  IS JESUS CHRIST THE HEALER PRESENT?

Acts 10:38  How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. KJV

Luke 5:12-13 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.  And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.  KJV

Luke 5:15
But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities.

Luke 5:17  And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them. KJV

2.  ARE YOU WILLING TO BE HEALED?
        "wilt thou be made whole?"

This may seem like a ridiculous question, but Jesus asked it of the man he healed.  It is a most important question because healing brings certain things with it:

a. Healing brings change to life style:  You may have to go back to work, or give up your disability pension, etc.
b. Healing may require you to stop committing certain sins: "go and sin no more".
This in itself could be a major shift in life style.
c. Healing could bring rejection.  This man who was healed on the sabbath day by Jesus was thrown out of his synagogue.  Many who profess healing have to leave their church that does not believe in such things.
d.  Healing brings persecution.  If they persecuted Jesus the Healer, it stands to reason they would persecute those He healed.

John 5:16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day. KJV

John 12:9-10  Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.  But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death; KJV

It seems inconceivable that people would want to kill someone Jesus had raised from the dead or would persecute someone who had received a healing from Jesus, but it does happen because they do not want to receive Jesus as their Lord.  Knowing what might happen to you in this regard could cause you to not be willing to be healed.

3. ARE YOU WILLING TO OBEY THE LORD IN FAITH?

In each of the following passages, Jesus required the people He healed to do what they could not do before.  As they obeyed, they were healed!  Are you willing to do what you could not do before Jesus came along?  Faith is an action you take based upon your believing what Jesus has told you to do.  JUST DO IT!

John 5:8  Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. KJV

Luke 5:24  But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house. KJV

Luke 6:10 And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other. KJV

Luke 7:14-15  And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.  And he that was dead sat up KJV

Luke 8:54-55  And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise.  And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat. KJV

Luke 17:14  And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed KJV
